Spanish

¡Hola! Bienvenidos a nuestra área de español:

At St John’s, we are proud to provide our children with the opportunity to learn Spanish as part of our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum.

The DfE states that: 'Learning a language is ‘a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures’. Not only this, it equips pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

We have embraced the chance to broaden our horizons with the opportunity to learn foreign languages with a native speaker (KS2). Through a high-quality language education, we aspire to foster our pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Our younger pupils are exposed to the Spanish language through stories, songs and games, preparing them for their MFL lessons in Key Stage 2.

Our aim is to see pupils leave our school in Year 6 with the ability to: understand and respond to spoken and written language; speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity; write at varying length; and to discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in Spanish.

Here are some of our brilliant KS2 Spanish speakers, who shared a Spanish story, 'Los Tres Cerditos' (The Three Little Pigs), with our EYFS classes.

¡Muy bien!
