Autumn 1 2023
In the first few weeks of nursery we had a lovely time meeting all our new classmates and making friends. We explored the nursery environment and had lots of fun playing outdoors, with bikes, hoops and balls, as well as the climbing frame and tunnel!
We talked a lot about what makes us all special, and used mirrors to talk about our features. We used modelling materials to create a picture of our face for our class display.
We found out all about the season of Autumn by exploring our outdoor area and looking at lots of books about Autumn. We asked questions like ‘Where do the conkers come from?’ and ‘Why is it getting colder?’
We used our maths sorting skills to group and categorise a variety of Autumn objects such as pine cones, conkers and different coloured leaves. We learnt about numbers by singing 5 Little Conkers and practised taking one away.
We read lots of books about starting school and making new friends, and our main story topic was ‘Owl Babies’, which we learnt to retell and sequence using puppets, toys and pictures. We made lots of Autumn crafts and pictures, including hedgehogs, owls, trees and leaf printing.
We loved hearing nursery rhymes and joining in with songs on the carpet, especially action songs! We started to listen for rhyming words in stories, such as Room on the Broom. We had hours of fun retelling the story using all the characters and objects. We were so good at remembering what the characters said and using expression!
