Extra Curricular Clubs
At St John's we offer a wide range of after school clubs, which are run by staff. We also welcome a range of visitors to our school, who come along and enable the children to have a wealth of different experiences and gain an abundance of knowledge.
Music
At St John's we hold a variety of after school and lunchtime clubs for our pupils to attend in addition to their curriculum lessons. This enables us to broaden the musical experience of the children, enrich their learning and increase their enjoyment in the subject.
Year 4 Recorder Club
Year 4 love to learn new music and popular songs during their lunch hour. Most recently they have been hard at work learning Mamma Mia by Abba, and enjoy rehearsing this with the backing track!
Years 5 and 6 'Young Voices' Club
In Young Voices, the children get the opportunity to experience singing and performing as part of an ensemble. They enjoy taking part in selecting songs for the group to sing, and being creative in adapting, performing and moving to the songs with their peers.
The Young Voices club is a fun, relaxed and positive environment for the children to be part of, whilst broadening their knowledge of contemporary and traditional singers and songs.
'Superstarters' at Resonate
Through our strong links with Liverpool's central music hub, many of our children attend an instrumental ensemble group at Resonate Studios, where they have the opportunity to experience a huge range of instruments, the latest teaching pedagogy, and receive support and tuition from specialist music teachers. Parents and carers really enjoy attending their termly concerts to see what they have been learning about.
Computing Club
KS2 children have the opportunity to attend computing club. During the sessions children can play a range of coding games and design and create their own games! Children are also given the opportunity to use Sphero Bolts; mini computers that empowers children to explore their creativity, coding skills and inventiveness.
Reading Club
Our reading club provides children opportunities to access a variety of books, improve their reading skills and develop a love for literature. Children are encouraged to read a variety of books to expand their knowledge and become inspired by coming together to discover new genres and authors.
During the book club our children:
- Read and review a variety of books for fun
- Discuss topics that relate to them
- Communicate face-to-face
- Learn to respect each other's different opinions
- Think creatively.
Art Club
Art Club is a chance for children to engage with art outside of our usual art lessons in school. This is a brilliant time for children to explore a range of different mediums, as well as artists, that they may not be introduced to within their year groups. The children are so excited to get creative and start making things!
Gymnastics club
Gymnastics club runs every week after school for KS2 children. Each week the children will focus on practising a new skill, as well as developing existing skills, using gymnastics equipment, along with a warm-up and cool down. Children learn how to safely perform jumps, leaps, rolls, stands, landing, balances, and bends.
Girls and Boys Football
KS2 Football Club is for boys and girls of all abilities who love the game, and would like to improve their skills while having fun. Each week, children will be set fun challenges that improve their technique with the ball, followed by matches to showcase their skills! The club is designed to improve the football skills of the children and introduce them to playing competitive games.
Dance
St John's school encourages children of all ages to take part in this wonderful after-school club. Dancing is a great form of exercise, and a love of dance helps children to stay active while having fun. During these classes, children will improve their flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. As well as promoting overall health, enhanced development in these areas can help kids with sports and other activities at school and beyond.
